This week, I posted a video to Instagram and TikTok called
"3 Details that Make Kitchen Cabinets Feel Cheap".
Â
We recently took a weekend vacation to a small resort town, where the same builder built all the homes. The houses were beautiful, but I couldn't help but notice that it kinda felt like the builder cut some corners on the kitchens.

Here's a summary:
3 Details That Make Kitchen Cabinets Feel Cheap (Sorry 😣 )
The first thing that comes to mind is cabinets with big gaps between the door and drawer faces. These are called "partial overlay" cabinet faces. I recommend "full overlay" or "inset" door and drawer faces for a more high-quality look.
The second tell-tail sign is appliances that don't fit their surrounding cabinets very well. The image on the left shows a full-depth fridge pushed into cabinets that were built for a counter-depth fridge.
Â
Lastly, I can't unsee a missing end panel! At the end of a run of cabinets, I recommend finishing with a full-height end panel, as shown in the image on the right. This will look more finished and be more durable.
Â
I don't say these things to make anyone feel bad about their home. I just want you to know what to ask for when it is time to remodel your home. A well-built kitchen is not only better looking, but it will last much longer and be more user-friendly.
